RESUMEN

Examination of 71 patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) has revealed that such patients had subnormal levels of antiproteolytic enzymes even in pancreatitis remission. Compared to women, men had higher total cholesterol (by 12.2%), triglycerides (by 13.3%), LDLP (by 19.3%), respectively, while women had higher insulin (by 22%) and cortisol (by 13.4%). Glycemia was higher in men (by 10 and 18% according to glucose tolerance test, min 30 and 60). The most effective spa regimen for CP patients was drinking mineral water from Slavyanovsky spring (56 degrees C) in a half-dose and from the spring Vladimirsky (24 degrees C) in a standard dose. The standard dose of mineral water from Slavyanovsky mineral spring has the best effect in patients with carbohydrate metabolism disorders.

RESUMEN

Three hundred postmastectomy breast cancer patients and 150 patients after gastric resection for cancer have received spa treatment. It was found that a course intake of mineral water in both groups improved immune status: raised significantly the levels of T- and B-lymphocytes and their functional activity, reduced blood levels of IgG and CIC providing the phenomenon of immunological enhancement of tumor antigens. Incidence rate of postgastroresection disorders after the spa treatment fell 3.8 times, performance raised 3.1 times. The number of breast cancer recurrences decreased by 20%.

RESUMEN

Craniocervical trauma brings about pathology of the central regulatory mechanisms, functional insufficiency of which persists for many years and is responsible for specific features of traumatic disease of the brain with development of the syndrome of posttraumatic regulatory disorders of the nervous-endocrine-immune system. The authors propose methods of differential therapy of posttraumatic hormonal disorders in sanatorium.

RESUMEN

Prostatitis modelled in 53 Wistar male rats (300-350 body mass) 7 days after its induction was treated with mineral water "Essentuki N 17" (MW) which was taken in a dose 1.5-2 ml per 100 g body mass for 23-24 days. In addition, some animals received phytoaeroionisation (PAI) with solution of essential oils of mint, sage and lavender. Prostatitis is associated with disorders in prostatic tissue, levels of sex hormones (testosterone, prolactin, FSH, LH), a rise in total cholesterol, glucose. Watering of animals with MW and PAI raised blood insulin, hydrocortisone and testosterone, normalized blood glucose and cholesterol. There was a correlation between blood levels of hydrocortisone and testosterone.

RESUMEN

Course effects of mineral water (MW) Dzhemukhskaya and captopril were studied in 80 Wistar male rats with experimental atherosclerosis. Captopril significantly enhanced effects of MW. Aldosterone levels decreased 2.2 times, triiodothyronine--by 57.2%, atherogenic index--2 fold. ACTH and hydrocortisone concentrations noticeably went up. High glucose levels in the blood diminished. Elevated levels of AlT and AsT normalized. Favourable shifts in combined use of MW and captopril in various doses were nearly the same, in some cases lower dose of captopril was more effective.

RESUMEN

Glycohomeostasis was studied in patients operated for breast cancer, healthy controls and ulcer patients before and after gastric resection (each group consisted of 12-15 examinees). Patients with duodenal ulcer had insulin hypersection including early phase reaction. Gastric resection decreases insulinemia in an early phase of reaction to oral glucose test. In postmastectomy patients insulinemia is 2-3 times higher than that in duodenal ulcer patients and 5 times higher than that in healthy subjects. Besides hyperinsulinemia, they had insulin resistance and impaired carbohydrate tolerance. A course intake of mineral water raised tissue sensitivity to insulin at early stages of glucose test and lowered basal level of insulin and hydrocortisone.

RESUMEN

80 Wistar male rats were kept for 24 days in moderate altitude conditions of mountain resort Teberda. Before the experiment and after it their blood was examined with enzyme immunoassay for hydrocortisone, T3, T4, TSH, with radioimmunoassay for insulin; glucose levels, dynamics of peripheral blood count, immune status were also measured. It was found that UV radiation has a negative effect on hormonal and immune status of healthy rats in medium-high mountains (hydrocortisone levels fell by 50%, insulin rose 5-6-fold, CIC rose by 24.2%, eosinophils count rose 3-fold, T-cell immunity and lymphocyte phagocyting activity got suppressed, lymphocyte/neutrophil proportion reduced by 35%. Intake of mineral water corrected all the negative effects of insolation but hyperinsulinemia decreased insignificantly.

RESUMEN

Effects of a single and course intake of glucose, ascorbic acid and rutin in combination with mineral water Essentuki N17 on blood levels of glucose, hydrocortisone, ACTH, insulin were studied in 336 Wistar male rats. 80 patients with diabetes mellitus type I and II received a course of ascorutin and mineral water. Mineral water proved able to reduce a hyperglycemic effect of vitamins. A course of mineral water and ascorutin promotes improvement of carbohydrate, lipid metabolism, elevates plasma content of ascorbic acid, diminishes the need in sugar-reducing drugs.

RESUMEN

Hormonal status was examined in 30 intact male Wistar rats (body mass 200-220 g) and 10 healthy male volunteers aged 25-35 years. Hormonal status and influence of exercise were assessed in human males after 2, 10 and 19 days of stay in the sanatorium situated 2000 m above the sea level. The animals were decapitated on day 24 of their stay in the mountains. Blood from the rats' cervical vessels was examined for glucose, beta-lipoproteins, triiodothyronine, thyroxine, TTH, hydrocortisone. The findings indicate that stay in conditions of medium-height mountains climate aroused adaptation reactions in the hormonal systems, i.e. activation of thyroid hormones. An additional course of mineral water contributed to further rise of the blood hormones. Hormonal trends in the volunteers were similar. There was also a rise in the levels of beta-lipoproteins which was arrested by physical exercise.

RESUMEN

Acute action of hypoxia was modelled by raising 26 Wistar male rats (body mass 230-250 g) in the low-pressure chamber at the height of 9000 m with the speed 15 m/s. The exposure was 60 min. Before and after lifting the rat blood was examined for contents of hormones, glucose and body temperature. It was found that hormonal reactions in maximal hypoxia and in drinking mineral water were virtually the same. This explains potentiation of hypoxia by mineral water. It is suggested that hypoxia and drinking mineral waters should be included in the complex strengthening the reserves of human body.

RESUMEN

Glucose tolerance test (40 g/lm2 b.s.) in patients with stomach resected for gastroduodenal ulcer provoked dumping-syndrome seen 15-30 min after glucose introduction. There was also a rise in blood sugar (by 77%), ACTH (by > 400%), STH (by > 400%), hydrocortisone (by 56%). Aldosterone levels fell by 68%. There was also a marked fall in activity of early insulin pool changed for elevation of its secretion by the test minute 60. 65 patients with dumping-syndrome following a course of drinking mineral water demonstrated improvement in clinical symptoms of the disease and changed hormonal response to glucose which manifested with activation of insulin secretion early phase and reduced rise of hydrocortisone levels.

RESUMEN

The trial included 43 Wistar rats with alloxan diabetes, 80 patients with impaired carbohydrate tolerance, 80 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). 22 healthy volunteers and 60 intact rats served control. Glucose levels were measured 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after insulin administration (3.7 U/m2). It was found that insulin resistance in impaired carbohydrate tolerance was higher than in diabetes. Mineral water intake improves recovery of sensitivity to insulin. This improvement was more evident in intact rats. Therefore, mineral water is a good prophylactic modality.

RESUMEN

Radioimmunoassay (DRG kits) and orthotoluidine test were conducted to measure blood serotonin, insulin and glucose in 70 intact Wistar rat males before and after a course of drinking mineral water Essentuki 17 (MW). After the MW drinking course, a single dose of mineral water increases basal levels of serotonin and insulin, sensitivity of endocrine cells to MW. Serotonin and insulin rose maximally on minute 5 after the drink while in contrast to minute 15 and 30 before initiation of the MW drinking course. A direct correlation was found between blood concentrations of serotonin and insulin.

RESUMEN

Concentrations of ACTH, TTH, STH, LH, PSH, hydrocortisone, insulin, glucagone, triiodthyronine, thyroxine, aldosterone, glucose and unesterified fatty acids (NEFA) were measured in the blood of 23 healthy male volunteers aged 18 to 35 years 15, 30 and 60 min after a single nose inhalation and oral intake of mineral water Essentuki No. 17. Inhalation of Essentuki No. 17 stimulated secretion of the hormones and some parameters of metabolic reactions: the levels of glucose, NEFA, hydrocortisone, aldosterone, TTH, PSH and LH rose while those of insulin and growth hormone decreased. Oral intake of this water brought about the same changes in the hormone status except blood insulin the levels of which went up.

RESUMEN

Thymus area was exposed to laser radiation in 180 Wistar male rats. Intact animals experienced a stress response to a single laser procedure (a rise in the levels of hydrocortisone, a fall in those of insulin, triiodothyronine and thyroxine). Longer exposure to laser radiation caused a break of the hydrocortisone mechanism. Similar effects were seen in the course exposure. The immune system was unchanged. In adjuvant arthritis laser radiation induced similar hormonal shifts and additional suppression of immunity. In 82 children with active juvenile rheumatoid arthritis laser therapy produced an insignificant effect, while in adults with moderate rheumatoid arthritis the response was good.

RESUMEN

Before modelling of experimental ulcer according to I. S. Zavodskaia the animals (157 male Wistar rats) were given for 24 days mineral water Essentuki N 17 and rutin in a dose 20 or 40 mg. Those given 20 mg of rutin in combination with mineral water demonstrated a higher rise in blood concentrations of hydrocortisone, insulin and thyroxine. Gastric mucosa and levels of serum alpha-1, alpha-2, beta-globulins and albumins were less damaged.

RESUMEN

101 male Wistar rats (body mass 180-200 g) received a single dose of ethanol in two concentrations--96% and 30%. High ethanol concentrations produced a direct damage to gastric and duodenal mucosa. 30% ethanol inhibited secretion of glucagon, insulin and aldosterone. This inhibition rapidly changes for the hormones rise in the blood. Hydrocortisone was high over the experiment. Previous intake of mineral water prevents damage to the gastroduodenal mucosa induced by 96% ethanol and modifies the hormonal response provoked by 30% ethanol as evident from reduced expression of the two phases.
